  • Overview

    The golf program at camp is designed to promote a love of the game for campers and staff. On a typical day, our golf instructors will oversee 5 or 6 periods of golf instruction. You’ll be responsible for our golf area, an outdoor area that’s fully equipped with clubs, putting greens, bunkers and hitting nets.

    As a golf instructor your classes should be fun, motivating and engaging. You’ll get creative and build a program for different ages of campers. You’ll teach them how to swing, putt and score.

    As a summer camp golf instructor you will be helping to raise a future generation of healthy and active children. You’ll be a core part of our athletics program and you’ll help build the golf program with your team.

    Golf helps promote an active, outdoors mindset and you will be bringing that out in campers and you may also find yourself grow more confident. After 9 weeks of being a golf instructor, not only will you improve your leadership skills and strengthen your coaching style but you will leave with an experience that you can use beyond this summer.

  1. Sports Expertise and Knowledge: A strong understanding of various sports and physical activities is essential. The ability to teach techniques, strategies, and rules across a range of sports helps create a diverse and engaging athletic program.

  2. Leadership and Motivation: Inspiring and motivating kids to participate in and enjoy physical activities is key. An athletics instructor should be able to lead by example, encourage teamwork, and foster a positive and energetic environment.

  3. Patience and Adaptability: Working with children of different ages and skill levels requires patience and the ability to adapt instruction to meet individual needs. An effective instructor can tailor activities to ensure every child is engaged and having fun.

  4. Safety Awareness: Ensuring the safety of all participants during physical activities is paramount. The instructor should be well-versed in safety protocols, injury prevention, and know how to manage emergencies effectively.

  5. Communication and Teaching Skills: Clear and effective communication is crucial for instructing children in sports. An instructor must be able to explain rules, demonstrate techniques, and provide constructive feedback in a way that is understandable and encouraging for kids.

FAQs

  • Coaching periods are around 40-50 minutes long. You’ll normally coach 5 or 6 periods a day. arrive Campers will arrive at the golf area with their camp counselors. From the get go, you need to engage with them and make sure they are being safe! You and your team will have lesson plans (that you help build!) that will be tailored for the different levels and abilities. Those 40-50 minutes are yours to make as amazing as possible.

  • A typical class will have around 12-18 campers. Sometimes bunks have split activities or off-camp trips, or perhaps two bunks are scheduled for fitness at once! This means you can sometimes have a small handful of campers or a larger class to teach.

    You will have a schedule for each day to know what campers to expect before the day starts.

  • Golf certifications will help your application but we will also consider teaching experience.

    We’re looking for proactive, motivated and positive people to lead our fitness center.

  • Our camp season runs from mid-June to mid-August. For this position you would need to be available for this period.

  • Throughout the summer you will live in a bunk with campers and other camp counselors. When you’re not coaching you’ll connect with them and be part of their group to provide extra coverage. During this time you’ll have an opportunity to take part in other activities with them and help your team out.

  • Yes. On a regular schedule you will have one period off each day.

    You will also have one full day and night off each week. This is your chance to rest, recover and try some new things on camp and explore new places off camp with other staff.
