Summer Camp DJ Jobs

  • Overview

DJ is one of the most energetic and creative areas at camp. We have an incredible DJ studio located inside our state-of-the-art Studio IHC music facility. The music program was revamped in 2019 and we added DJ as a program offering.

As a DJ instructor you will lead classes of campers, helping them learn various styles and disciplines. Through DJ you help teach them a deeper understanding of music and how to use the equipment.

Whilst the younger campers will have a more introductory teaching program, our older campers can be challenged with a higher level of techniques.

  • Why Teach DJ at Summer Camp?

Music is widely under-taught in schools, it’s often over-looked as a secondary subject and it is rare to find large groups of kids learning music together. As a DJ instructor at IHC you will have the opportunity to teach what you love to campers of all ages and abilities.

In our DJ studio, you and the rest of the music team will be able to work creatively to bring our music program to life.

The role provides great experience for anyone seeking future employment in the music industry.

FAQs

  • Teaching periods are around 40-50 minutes long. You’ll typically teach 5 or 6 periods of DJ a day. Camp counselors will accompany the campers to the DJ studio and then it’s your responsibility to engage with the campers and get them ready for the lesson. You and your team will have lesson plans (that you help build!) that will be tailored for the different levels and abilities. Those 40-50 minutes are yours to make as amazing as possible.

  • A typical class will have around 6-12 campers. You will have a schedule for each day to know what campers to expect before the day starts. Sometimes bunks have split activities or off-camp trips, or perhaps extra campers are scheduled for DJ at once!

This means you can sometimes have a small handful of campers or a larger class to teach.

  • Teaching experience will always help but most importantly you have to be super passionate about cooking and even more passionate about working with children!

  • Our camp season runs from mid-June to mid-August. For this position you would need to be available for this period.

  • Throughout the summer you will live in a bunk with campers and other camp counselors. When you’re not teaching you’ll connect with them and be part of their group to provide extra coverage. During this time you’ll have an opportunity to take part in other activities with them and help your team out.

  • Yes. On a regular schedule you will have one period off each day.

You will also have one full day and night off each week. This is your chance to rest, recover and try some new things on camp and explore new places off camp with other staff.
