Summer Camp Baseball Jobs
-
Overview
Baseball is the all American classic summer activity! At Camp IHC we have 3 baseball diamonds and every day you will see campers pitching, batting, stealing bases, and sliding into home.
On a typical day, baseball coaches will teach five to six periods. You’ll teach campers from 6-16 years old with a variety of abilities. There will also be opportunities to coach specialized classes to more advanced baseball players. You’ll umpire competitive games, coach IHC teams against other camps in tournaments and help campers improve their baseball skills all summer long.

Why Teach Baseball at Summer Camp?
Our baseball program typically brings 3 or 4 specialists to Camp IHC during the summer. You’ll work together to build a series of lesson plans and then put them into action over the summer.
Coaching a group of campers will challenge you more than anything you’ve ever tried. You’ll learn how to keep campers engaged, encourage participation and help them learn new skills that can easily lead to new passions.
At the end of the summer your coaching skills, your leadership and your teaching will become stronger.
At Camp IHC you’ll be a role model both on and off the fields to our campers. They will look up to you in so many ways and as cliche as it sounds, they will 100% have an impact on you too.
5 things we look for in Coaches
Sports Expertise and Knowledge: A strong understanding of various sports and physical activities is essential. The ability to teach techniques, strategies, and rules across a range of sports helps create a diverse and engaging athletic program.
Leadership and Motivation: Inspiring and motivating kids to participate in and enjoy physical activities is key. An athletics instructor should be able to lead by example, encourage teamwork, and foster a positive and energetic environment.
Patience and Adaptability: Working with children of different ages and skill levels requires patience and the ability to adapt instruction to meet individual needs. An effective instructor can tailor activities to ensure every child is engaged and having fun.
Safety Awareness: Ensuring the safety of all participants during physical activities is paramount. The instructor should be well-versed in safety protocols, injury prevention, and know how to manage emergencies effectively.
Communication and Teaching Skills: Clear and effective communication is crucial for instructing children in sports. An instructor must be able to explain rules, demonstrate techniques, and provide constructive feedback in a way that is understandable and encouraging for kids.

Coaching periods are around 40-50 minutes long. You’ll normally coach 5 or 6 periods a day. Campers will arrive at the baseball diamonds with their camp counselors but it will be your job to engage them from the start and get them ready and excited for the lesson. You and your team will have lesson plans (that you help build!) that will be tailored for the different levels and abilities. Those 40-50 minutes are yours to make as amazing as possible.

A typical class will have around 12-18 campers. Sometimes bunks have split activities or off-camp trips, or perhaps two bunks are scheduled for baseball at once! This means you can sometimes have a handful of campers or a larger class to teach.
You will have a schedule for each day to know what campers to expect before the day starts.

Yes! There are different types of tournaments over the summer. There are divisional tournaments where bunks will play mini-tournaments against each other. There are inter-camp tournaments where different camps will play against each other. There are off-camp tournaments where you will go to another camp to represent IHC with your team.

Our camp season runs from mid-June to mid-August. For this position you would need to be available for this period.

Throughout the summer you will live in a bunk with campers and other camp counselors. When you’re not coaching you’ll connect with them and be part of their group to provide extra coverage. During this time you’ll have an opportunity to take part in other activities with them and help your team out.
