7 Signs That You’re Missing Summer Camp Life Too Much!

It’s been a few weeks since camp finished and the ‘real world’ is probably hitting you hard, you’re maybe back at school already, the travels are over, the summer is finished and you’re lying on the couch watching the videos wondering where the last two months at IHC have gone.

We know… it happens every year. No-one is immune!

Here’s the 7 signs that mean you’re missing summer camp life too much…

1. The Summer Camp Photo Search

It’s 10pm. You’re lying in bed with a Netflix show on your laptop…but you’re not paying attention to the show, you’re only half watching. The reason you’re only half watching is because you have your phone in the other hand and you’re searching every album on Waldo reliving your entire summer day by day. First, you look at the campfire album for that golden hour picture, then you want one with your bunk, then one with your camp best friend, then one for your new profile picture and a few more just to post on Instagram to show your friends that you had the best summer of your life at IHC.

2. The Wrist Tan is Fading

Look down at your arm and you will probably see 10 friendship bracelets, one cheap Walmart watch, a bunk bangle and various other rubber bands that have eclipsed your wrist for the last 7 weeks. Most of those days wearing them were spent running around in the sun. Your ankles to knees are tanned, your face has a few extra freckles and your t-shirt tan gradually improved… but that left wrist has stayed the exact same color all summer long. The tan line was real, and now it’s starting to fade…

When it disappears it’s time to start counting the days until next summer!

3. Meal Times are too Quiet

There’s no singing, there’s no dancing and there’s no chanting anymore.

There’s conversation but when people ask you what you did today it wasn’t zipping, sliding, splashing or any number of cool things that happened at camp…

And WHY is there no chocolate pudding?

4. You Start Randomly Breaking into Song

You’re on the bus, you’re in a car, you’re in a supermarket… suddenly a song comes on that takes you right back to summer camp.

Without a word of warning you’re singing out loud and you don’t care who is watching or listening. It’s your bunk song and ain’t nobody gonna tell you to stop!

Do your thing.

5. People Tell you to Stop Talking about Camp

Urgh, this one is the worst.

For the first week it was fine, everyone understands you had a great summer and will put up with your stories.

The second week, you are still talking about camp and they start to zone out and sneakily try change the conversation.

By the third week they will actively tell you to stop talking about camp and you run the risk of losing friends.

It’s okay, they don’t understand… they didn’t go to IHC.

6. You Learn Every Time Difference around the World

This one mostly applies for the staff.

You just remembered a hilarious story from camp and NEED to Facetime your bunk buddy to remind them about it. But you can’t… because it’s 3am in Australia, or like 4am in London and that bunk buddy is selfishly sleeping instead of talking to you.

How rude…

Wake them up anyway.

7. You have the Post Camp Blues

You’re sad that camp is over and are now living 10 months for 2.

You suddenly have too much time on your hands and spend most of that time thinking and dreaming about camp.

You miss the lake, the bunkline, the campfires and 1001+ other things that made it such a special summer.

You clearly have a case of the post camp blues which can only be cured by counting down the days until summer 2019 and heading back to your home from home.
