Help promote wellness to the body & mind at camp this summer.

Summer Camp Yoga Jobs

  • Overview

As a summer camp yoga instructor you will be helping to raise a future generation of mindful children. You’ll be a core part of our camp program and you’ll facilitate a successful yoga program.

Yoga is taught five to six periods a day. You will lead campers from 6-16 years old with a variety of abilities, helping them become stronger, improve their flexibility, their mental well-being, body awareness, and promote inner-calmness.

  • Why Teach Yoga at Camp?

Yoga is a great program offering in the sense that campers don’t get too many chances in the normal world to do daily yoga. When children learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and greater fulfillment we find that they can learn to navigate the challenges of life with a little more ease.

You will bring that curiosity out in campers and at the end of the summer they will help you grow more confident in your own abilities. You’ll improve your leadership skills, your teaching methods will be stronger and you’ll leave with 9 weeks of outdoor yoga experience that you can use beyond this summer.

FAQs

  • Teaching periods are around 40-50 minutes long and you’ll normally coach 5 or 6 periods a day. Camp counselors will accompany the campers to the Yoga Yurt and then it’s your responsibility to engage with the campers and get them ready for the lesson. You and your team will have lesson plans (that you help build!) that will be tailored for the different levels and abilities. Those 40-50 minutes are yours to make as amazing as possible.

  • A typical class will have around 12-18 campers. You will have a schedule for each day to know what campers to expect before the day starts. Sometimes bunks have split activities or off-camp trips, or perhaps extra campers are scheduled for yoga at once! This means you can sometimes have a small handful of campers or a larger class to teach. So you’ll need to be extra flexible with your classes.

Yoga is an indoor activity, so on rainy days you may have more campers than usual!

  • Our camp season runs from mid-June to mid-August. For this position you would need to be available for this period.

  • We do not require qualifications for yoga. We are looking for passionate people who are looking to work with children all summer long. Yoga isn’t about qualifications, it’s a way of life.

So if you live & breathe yoga and want to help our campers do that too then this is the job for you.

  • Throughout the summer you will live in a bunk with campers and other camp counselors. When you’re not instructing you’ll connect with them and be part of their group to provide extra coverage. During this time you’ll have an opportunity to take part in other activities with them and help your team out.

  • Yes. On a regular schedule you will have one period off each day.

You will also have one full day and night off each week. This is your chance to rest, recover and try some new things on camp and explore new places off camp with other staff.
