Raise a future generation of hockey players.

Summer Camp Hockey Jobs

  • Overview

Hockey at camp is one of the most fun activities! Campers love to put on their skates and head to our indoor hockey rink to play against each other and other camps.

As a hockey instructor you will teach a wide range of hockey abilities to campers of all ages, from the beginners to the pros. As the hockey instructor you will be responsible for coaching campers on their skating, their passing, their dribbling, shooting, tackling checking, and, most importantly, teamwork.

  • Why Teach Hockey at Summer Camp?

As a summer camp hockey instructor you will be helping to raise a future generation of hockey players. You’ll be a core part of our athletics program and you’ll help build the hockey program with your team.

Hockey players know that this is a sport that helps children learn many key athletic skills.  In this role, you will help to enhance these skills in campers and by the end of 9 weeks you will find you have grown more confident as a hockey coach.  You will improve your leadership skills and will strengthen your coaching style.  The experience you gain will be a benefit to you well beyond the summer you spend at Camp IHC.

FAQs

  • Coaching periods are around 40-50 minutes long. You’ll normally coach 5 or 6 periods a day. Campers will arrive at the hockey area with their camp counselor but you will need to engage them from the get-go. You and your team will have lesson plans (that you help build!) that will be tailored for the different levels and abilities. Those 40-50 minutes are yours to make as amazing as possible.

  • A typical class will have around 12-18 campers. Sometimes bunks have split activities or off-camp trips, or perhaps two bunks are scheduled for hockey at once! This means you can sometimes have a handful of campers or a larger class to teach. You will have a schedule for each day to know what campers to expect before the day starts.

  • Yes! There are different types of tournaments over the summer. There are divisional tournaments where bunks will play mini-tournaments against each other, there are inter-camp tournaments where different camps will play against each other. There are also off-camp tournaments where you will go to another camp to represent IHC against neighboring camps.

  • Yes. When we play against other camps you will travel with campers and other camp counselors to represent Camp IHC. You’ll go for most of the day and coach campers, making sure they are having fun and while being safe.

  • Throughout the summer you will live in a bunk with campers and other camp counselors. When you’re not coaching you’ll connect with them and be part of their group to provide extra coverage. During this time you’ll have an opportunity to take part in other activities with them and help your team out.

  • Yes. On a regular schedule you will have one period off each day.

You will also have one full day and night off each week. This is your chance to rest, recover and try some new things on camp and explore new places off camp with other staff.
