  • Overview

    The fitness program at camp is designed to promote an active lifestyle for campers and staff. On a typical day, our fitness instructors will oversee 5 or 6 periods of fitness. You’ll be responsible for our fitness center, an indoor building that’s fully equipped with rowing machines, free weights, treadmills, cross trainers, cycling bikes, ab-trainers and more!

    As a fitness instructor your classes should be fun, motivating and engaging. You’ll get creative and build a program for different ages of campers. You’ll teach them how to stretch, move, lift and recover!

  • Why Teach Fitness at Camp?

    As a summer camp fitness instructor you will be helping to raise a future generation of healthy and active children. You’ll be a core part of our athletics program and you’ll help build the fitness program with your team.

    Fitness helps promote self-confidence and you will be bringing that out in campers and you may also find yourself grow more confident. After 9 weeks of being a fitness instructor, not only will you improve your leadership skills and strengthen your coaching style but you will leave with an experience that you can use beyond this summer.

  • Coaching periods are around 40-50 minutes long. You’ll normally coach 5 or 6 periods a day. arrive Campers will arrive at the fitness studio with their camp counselors. From the get go, you need to engage with them and make sure they are being safe! You and your team will have lesson plans (that you help build!) that will be tailored for the different levels and abilities. Those 40-50 minutes are yours to make as amazing as possible.

  • A typical class will have around 12-18 campers. Sometimes bunks have split activities or off-camp trips, or perhaps two bunks are scheduled for fitness at once! This means you can sometimes have a small handful of campers or a larger class to teach.

    You will have a schedule for each day to know what campers to expect before the day starts.

  • Fitness certifications will help your application but we will also consider teaching experience.

    We’re looking for proactive, motivated and positive people to lead our fitness center.

  • Our camp season runs from mid-June to mid-August. For this position you would need to be available for this period.

  • Throughout the summer you will live in a bunk with campers and other camp counselors. When you’re not coaching you’ll connect with them and be part of their group to provide extra coverage. During this time you’ll have an opportunity to take part in other activities with them and help your team out.

  • Yes. On a regular schedule you will have one period off each day.

    You will also have one full day and night off each week. This is your chance to rest, recover and try some new things on camp and explore new places off camp with other staff.
