Camper Media

Inspire the next generation of photographer, filmmakers, writers and designers.

Summer Camp Media Jobs

amper Media is one of the fastest growing summer camp programs in the country and the role involves teaching the campers how to dive deeper into the creative world. This includes photography, videography, scriptwriting, directing, editing, podcasting and graphic design.

You will work alongside a small team of media creatives to teach 5-6 lessons a day to kids aged between 6-15 years old.

You will have autonomy to bring these lessons to life in a fun, engaging and educational manner. When lessons finish in the late afternoon you will work on camper media post-production edits or join the wider media & content creation team to assist with other media projects.

“I have to say, the best part about being a camper media specialist was seeing the impact that your role had on the kids. Throughout the summer, it brought me great happiness to see the kids enjoying the activity we were teaching. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to share that passion with them and help turn their crazy ideas into a reality!”

We use a facial recognition software, so every photo we take of a camper gets sent via the software to parents and families of that camper so they can see what they got up to that day!

FAQs

  • They are standard in the summer camp world. You’ll be teaching 5-6 lessons each day you are working.  There are 3 lessons in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. These lessons will either be an entire bunk (around 12 kids) or electives, electives are when kids sign up for the media 4 times a week.

Each lesson is around 45-60 minutes long and will involve explaining the lesson to the campers, then helping bring the lesson plan to life.

  • We shoot on Canon 80D and Sony A6000 cameras and use a variety of different lenses. There are tripods and Rode microphones for video. There is a Rode master Podcasting Station, a green screen with OBS links to Apple TV. We have a series of iMac’s for photo and video projects as well as subscriptions to Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

  • A basic understanding of DSLR & Mirrorless cameras is essential. You will need to understand ISO, aperture and shutter speeds and how they work together to produce beautiful photographs.

An understanding of Adobe Lightroom is also beneficial as all photographs are shot in RAW and edited in post-production. Experience with Premiere Pro is essential for video projects.

Most importantly you will need passion for working with children of all ages and have motivation to inspire them.

  • Camper Media is considered an extension to the wider media team. The wider media team are working on video projects, thousands of photographs and social content. When you’re not teaching classes you will be assigned various projects to help capture or continue to work on camper media post-production edits.

  • We are open to the possibilities, typically media teachers do not live with campers and more often assigned to staff bunk. The staff bunk may be associated with a camper bunk or division but no campers will live in that actual bunk.

  • Yes. You will have one full day and night off each week. This is your chance to rest, recover and try some new things on camp and explore new places off camp with other staff.
